Mr. David Moss has pointed out that the Club should be involved in local, regional, and national projects that would serve our rivers, lakes, ponds and wetlands. It seems that in order to do this the Club should pursue a plan that would create some policy and guidance for our future support.
Of course we should look at projects by the Federation of Fly Fishers, and our own Southern Council, then locally, we need to be aware of conservation activity, and watershed improvement activity.
There are many issues across the western United States that involve limiting public access to Blue Ribbon waters. This concerns us because our members would like to be able to have access when we get the opportunity to take that once in a lifetime trip to Montana, Wyoming, Colorado or the northwest. These new property owners, some of them are outfitters and even fishing clubs are buying up property to give themselves exclusive access. Former river access is denied the general public altogether or the rod fee is prohibitive.
Perhaps MAKO should create some discussion with regard to these issues and have the Executive Board chose our issues as part of the Budget process each year.
