" Fly tying is the other half of Fly Fishing" Dave Whitlock.
Silas and I invited ourselves over to Carl's on Sunday afternoon to tie some flies. It turned out that Carl had some Chili, hotdogs, hot crackers and beer laying around so we were able to have a good lunch prior to the exhausing fly tying session. No one took a nap, but it was a close thing.
Our tying was not intense, but our conversation was energetic. We talked about new fishing trips, old fishing trips, white bass fishing trips (coming soon), and Taneycomo fishing trips. So far we have not narrowed the field much, so many fish, so little time.
Still we did manage to tie some good looking Black Caddis (Silas) and one scraggly mouse pattern (Harry).
One outstanding thing that happened was that Carl's son-in-law had taken him Duck Hunting that morning. After Jeff had fileted the ducks (one mallard, one hen, one bluebill) Carl sacked them up and brought them home. What a great bunch of wing, breast and secondary feathers! We were even able to match up secondary wing feathers for "no hackle" flies. Silas and I started making requests for wood duck, and turkey! Imagine our surprise when Carl produced a bag of wood duck breast feathers! I estimate we can all now tie about 4000 traditional gold ribbed hare's ear nymphs.
Did I mention that Pat was not home. It was obvious, right?

Harry,
Did you ever get the hot cracker recipe out of Carl? Inquiring minds want to know!
