Bob talked me in to taking an extended weekend fishing trip this weekend. After we narrowed down our options based on our basic needs (fishing, a place to crash, and internet access), Bob suggested we give the cabins at River Run Outfitters a try.

We met up Saturday morning and began the trek to Branson. We couldn’t resist the temptation to stop along the way and shop for RV’s on the way down. We looked at a lot of RV and were amazed at how far 5th wheels have some, especially for someone how wants the ability to work from one.
After driving for what seemed like forever, we finally made it to our destination. Waking into River Run we were greeted with an Orvis Helios 5 wt draped across the hand rail and Bob couldn’t resist the temptation to test cast such a fine rod.

We finally got in the shop and after some chit chatting we got out keys and began the bag drag to the cabins.
I really didn’t know what to expect but I was in no way prepared for what I was entering into. Carolyn's cabins are a fishers dream. Beside the doors are magazine racks filled with some of the best fishing periodicals in publication. There is a flat screen DVD player with selected fly fishing videos for your viewing pleasure. The kitchen is furnished with dishes, silverware, and even wine glasses. The bedroom has a very comfortable queen and the couch folds out to another bed.

Bob and I finally made it to the water about an hour before sunset. We rigged up and walked down the steps at outlet 3. Considering the weather we were surprised to find the rebar full of fishers. We headed towards the big hole. After a few minutes I picked up my first fish on a crawfish pine squirrel. Fishing was actually very slow. I picked up a few fish by just letting by bug sit on the bottom. I moved down stream stumbling on a few rocks and eventually took a dunking. The icy water rushed up my sleeve and into the top of my wading jacket. Its waterproof qualities made it a great funnel to route the water into the top of my waders. I located Bob and informed him of my desire to locate a laundry to dry my clothes before we continue fishing.

After a small break to get me dry we were back to fishing. This time we had the upper end to ourselves. I’m not sure why. It was a beautiful evening, full moon, clear sky and 26 degrees. Too bad out waders and boots were completely frozen, it made it quite a challenge to get geared back up. We eventually did and we moved up the outlet one and started back at it. It took a very long time to for us to get a fish. We fished down to outlet two before calling it an evening at midnight. We were beat, the half mile drive to the cabins were a dream come true. We departed to our cabins to thaw our gear and grab a nap before round two.
