I enjoy many aspects of flyfishing. Tying flies is great, learning and practicing casting is fun, rigging the fly lines and leaders is entertaining, but packing for a trip drives me crazy!
My empending fishing trip to Buffalo, NY is a good example. As I went through my list of items to take I was missing one fly box that contained many steelhead flies. It forced me to look in every closet, desk, and chest of drawers in the house.
Any other time this might have been a great treasure hunt. I did find over 25 boxes of flies, many packages and bundles of tying material, and hundreds of pictures from fishing trips over the years, but no fly box.
Finally, I went back to my fly tying room and unloaded a bureau stacked with fly boxes (all full of flies), behind everything on the bottom of a pile was the box of steelhead flies. I was not amused, but I was relieved to have these flies.
Tonight I get to finish packing all of the warm clothes I will need and still keep it all in just one bag. Traveling on the airlines with fishing gear might end up being another Blog.
Wish me luck.
